My artwork sells as I create it and in solo and group exhibitions. I am the first US citizen to paint a portrait of the king of Spain. I have also painted judges, officers of Fortune 500 corporations, and many children. My murals embellish more than two dozen buildings and my paintings hang in many private collections.
I am an American artist born in Madrid, father of two, and bilingual in Spanish and English. My children make me proud. Ian Howell is a doctorate student in robotics at Georgia Tech and USMC Sgt. Michael Aidan is an undergraduate at USC. My boys fledged I married Elena Figueroa, Marquesa de San Damián, a jazz singer and childhood friend from Madrid. We keep studios in Spain and South Carolina and are always ready to accept your commissions and to attend to your orders for paintings.

Some early experiences mark our lives. My siblings and I grew up a block from the Prado. Our father, novelist Fergus Reid Buckley, would take us to the museum. Those days being different than these, the guards would let me slip in alone. I would accompany my dynamic mother, designer "Betsy" Howell Buckley, to Harper Bazaar shoots by top photographers like Richard Avadon. We spent many afternoons at the Teatro Estudio Madrid (TEM) and the Teatro Español with theatre director Miguel Narros. On several ocassions we went to Lanzarote and stayed with arquitect and paintor Cesar Manrique in his fascinating house. Meeting my parent's artist friends and getting exposed to so much creativity at such early age may be why I am an artist.

Gratitude
Life for most artists has it's moments. I am fortunate my family and friends have backed my dreams, specially my father. It is because of their love and that of those who have aquired and commissioned my paintings that I am an artist.
