About Claude Buckley

Photograph of Claude Buckley

My goal is to create honest works of art that

will remain fresh for many generations."

Claude Buckley has painted since he was a child. He paints for himself, but accepts

family, business, and governmental oil portraits and murals.

The impressions of his youth in his native, Spain, have seeped into his art.

Claude Buckley, born in 1959, is a third generation member of the successful Buckley family.

He attends to his international clientele from his studio in Camden, SC.

His art decorates public and private homes in North, Central, South America, and Europe.

Claude’s devotion to painting stems from his childhood in Madrid. His parents, author Reid

Buckley, and, Betsy Buckley, collected art and cultivated artist's as friends.

Until his family moved to the United States, the back stage of the Spanish Theatre of Madrid,

and the halls of the Prado Museum were his play yard.  There, he discovered the work of the great

Masters, and they spurred his innate vocation to art.

Upon graduating from the University of the South, Claude moved to New York, to explore the

art world, and pursue his artistic vocation. There, he worked as a sculptor’s assistant, and

attended night classes at Parsons School of Design, and the New York Center for the Media Arts.

He painted the many homeless in his Bowery neighborhood.

He was called back to Spain by his desire to paint the landscapes of his youth. While in Spain

he painted many landscapes, nine murals, and a portrait of the

King of Spain. He stayed there until 1991, when he returned to Camden,

to raise his boys, Ian and Aidan.

He continues to travel world wide,  painting commissioned portraits and murals, while creating

other, more personal work, to placate his artistic desires.
