Painting Workshops with Claude Buckley

                 This is a Brush II; things you should know about painting outside.

 

   The focus of instruction will be organizing the equipment needed to paint on location, choosing

   what to paint, mixing the colors, and composing the painting. Work in the media of your choice.

   Students will gather outside the Boykin Company Grill for 30 minutes of instruction.

Then off to paint up and down the Boykin Road searching for beauty. The artist will wonder from

artist to artist suggesting this and that.

   If you can't make it to Boykin on your own, we can arrange a ride from the Fine Art Center,

in which case, please arrive at least thirty minutes early.

Because there is a class limit of ten students, register early.

Workshop fee: $50 per class. Enroll in just one, two, or all three classes.

One on one Private classes offered directly form the studio:

$75 per hour and a half.

 

 

Claude Buckley has painted and sold numerous landscape paintings. From the mountains to the shore.

He has painted in rustic Spanish towns, and on the streets of NYC.

Come paint with him and take advantage of his knowledge about painting outside.

 

 

Materials needed: Bring a sketch pad!

 

Brushes and palette knives: Various long handled filbert, round and flat brushes, size 1...pointers...4, 6, 8 are most

practical...to 14. A two inch and a four inch house painter brush...Purdy makes good one's...Lowe's. Bring one or two

palette knives. A sturdy one and a flexible one.

 

Paints:

Titanium White (large),

Blues: Ultramarine Blue (large), Phtalo Blue (small), Mars Black, optional; (small),

Reds: Burnt Sienna (large), Cadmium Red Light (small), Alizarin Crimson (small).

Yellows: Yellow Ochre (large), Cadmium Yellow Light (small).

 

Mediums:

For Oil paint: Stand oil, Dammar Varnish, or Oil Medium; Turpentine/mineral spirits.

For Acrylic paint: Water; Acrylic Gesso; Flat Acrylic Medium (Silica Flat).

For Watercolor paint: Water.

 

Canvasses:

A variety of small cheap canvases to experiment on. 8"10"...11"x14"

Palettes: Wax paper on a board, paper plates or disposable palettes..

 

Easel:

Light and easy to use portable easel…or prop the painting on something.  Bring a large paint

bucket or something to put your supplies into. I suggest some sort of a shopping cart with wheels.

 

Odds and Ends:

Rags or/and paper towels; dry hand soap; a small trash bag, masking tape, a handful of clothes pins

or clamps,one or two containers to wash the brushes and for the medium, keep it simple ...nothing fancy.
